Location: This role will be primarily based out of Plumstead Depot. Other areas, such as Stratford / Various other TfL Locations, may be required

The TfL Plant Engineering team has recently grown to encompass assurance activities, oversight of plant operations, and involvement in project work across the Underground, Rail for London Infrastructure (Elizabeth Line), and Trams.

Our scope includes working with: large On-Track machines (OTMs), as found in our Engineering Vehicles division and Elizabeth Line fleet; On-Track Plant (OTP), such as RRVs supplied by external contractors; as well as a range of Non-Railborne Plant, such as disk saws or civils plant.

As the Track Plant Project Engineer on the Elizabeth Line, you will collaborate daily with the Elizabeth Line’s Engineering, infrastructure maintenance and project teams. Your role will involve delivering vehicle overhaul projects, enhancements and new vehicles to the Elizabeth Line OTM fleet, ensuring they remain safe, compliant, and meet the evolving needs of the Elizabeth Line infrastructure.

Leveraging your expertise, you will develop innovative solutions, provide assurance, and offer guidance to key stakeholders. Additionally, you will communicate effectively with Senior Plant Engineers, Infrastructure Maintenance Engineers, Project Engineers, and Maintainers to support operations.

 

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Ability to communicate, motivate and influence effectively with key stakeholders at all levels across the organisation
  • Able to apply and explain engineering principles to resolve issues, progress developments, and deal with technical documentation and approvals
  • Proven ability to coordinate engineering activities to deliver assured engineering solutions
  • Experience in design or assurance of railway plant or rolling stock
  • Experience working within railway project governance, such as GRIP, Pathway, and PMF
  • Experience of the modification to, or introduction of, new plant, machinery or vehicles
  • Knowledge of UK/European railway legislation and standards, including ROGS, PUWER and associated plant standards
  • Knowledge of the railway risk assessment process, CSM-RA

 

Desirable

  • Experience in rail vehicle maintenance
  • Application of the supply of machinery safety regulations
  • Engineering process design
  • Formal health and safety qualification (e.g. IOSH/NEBOSH).
  • Reliability, performance, and maintenance strategies
