Purpose of the Role:
The purpose of the Content and Media Lead is to maximise the reach and impact of the British Council through English language teaching and learning content that is delivered via all digital and non-digital channels (i.e., audio/visual content in its many forms, including broadcast and print) with a specific focus on material for low-resource contexts.
You will work within the global English and School Education team in close collaboration with country teams to develop and implement the audio/visual media strategy as part of the wider Cultural Engagement and British Council strategy.
The role manages the processes for commissioning, procurement, development, production, quality assurance, compliance and licensing of high-quality content and supports delivery through ESE teams and partners such as national broadcasters, media agencies, Ministries of Education, and other stakeholder digital and non-digital platforms.
Accountabilities:
• Work with the ESE Senior Leadership Team to set and oversee the longer-term strategy and annual work plan for the British Council’s English language teaching digital and non-digital media agenda
• As an experienced professional in the field, lead the content development area of the ESE strategy • Ensure the development of new and updated audio/visual content is properly specified, designed and evaluated to deliver maximum contribution to the three globally-operating programmes (see above) and the wider British Council, Cultural Engagement and ESE objectives • Manage the delivery and licensing of audio/visual content (e.g. television, radio, print, Content Management System, Learning Management System, podcasts) to partners throughout the British Council global network. • Provide formal quality assurance for new and updated audio/visual content to ensure these are appropriate, high-quality, and aligned to the British Council’s strategic priorities. • Develop a full understanding of all the British Council’s wider suite of programmes, products and businesses to identify and communicate opportunities for audio/visual learning content to contribute towards financial performance and/or cultural relations impact
Qualifications & Experience:
Demonstrable experience in managing large-scale educational projects, including managing external suppliers Demonstrable experience of managing content production for learners and teachers of English for both digital and non-digital channels Demonstrable experience of how digital and non-digital technologies can be used most effectively in low-resource contexts Extensive knowledge of English teaching within school education systems and non-formal contexts, including issues and challenges in ELT
Important Information: Department: Cultural Engagement Contract type: Indefinite (Permanent) Contract Hours: Full-time - 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Pay band: 8 Salary: £38,820 - £46,000. (Plus an additional £3,300 per annum London Market Allowance if you are based in the London area only). For candidates with exceptional skills, knowledge and experience (specific to the role), the British Council may consider a moderate broadening of the advertised pay range.
