National Grid is hiring a Performance and Finance Manager to support the UK Technical Training team through National Grid's finance and procurement processes.

Within the role, you'll ensure alignment with evolving initiatives that influence sourcing and budget activities.

You’ll oversee financial operations, including the operating expenditure, capital expenditure, workforce planning and departmental budgets, while ensuring full compliance with financial and regulatory protocols.

In addition, the role will manage UK-wide Technical Training performance data and analytics, providing strategic insights to drive team performance, quality and efficiency.

You’ll lead the Finance and Analytics Team, driving continuous improvement and streamlining work processes. A solid understanding of the training environment is essential to translating business requirements into actionable deliverables that meet the Business need

The role is hybrid, and we hope to see you at our site in Eakring, alternatively Tipton or Taunton, and there also may be some ad hoc travel to different sites.

You must be able to drive and have a full UK driving licence for this role.

What you'll do

  • Ensure that the monthly and quarterly routines are in place to monitor and manage the budget and forecast for the UK Technical managers.
  • Generate monthly performance and financial metrics, enabling the management team to make operational decisions for the overall effectiveness and success of the department, as well as optimising cost, operational performance, risk, and safety performance.
  • Develop strong working relationships with all involved in the Learning & Development process (GTT Management, GTT Teams, MSP, Suppliers, etc.)
  • Support tender processes to meet Global Technical Training objectives.
  • Manage routine finance tasks, including purchase order creation, invoice receipting and external income invoicing
  • Liaise with Finance to ensure all financial requirements are undertaken for UK Technical Training, including annual budget submission, reforecasts & manpower planning
  • Provide Management Information to the UK Technical Training Leadership Team to support performance monitoring and to assist business case submissions
  • Contribute to broader National Grid submissions involving Learning & Development
  • Provision of Power BI data insights to the service BU Senior Leader Group, Governance forums, and external Government Funding Agency Contractual requirements

What you'll need

You’ll bring a blend of financial expertise, analytical skills and management capability to drive performance and innovation across the team

  • A recognised finance qualification (AAT, CIMA, ACCA or ICAEW) and experience working in a finance role.
  • Advanced Excel and Power BI experience for data analysis and reporting
  • Strong ability to communicate complex business and technical matters clearly and effectively.
  • Commercial awareness with a solid grasp of cost and value drivers
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with a track record of building productive relationships.
  • Experience leading and supporting a small, high-performing team to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Initiative and self-direction, with a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
  • Advanced project management skills with a focus on execution and results
  • Good networking and collaboration skills across diverse teams and functions
  • Influencing and negotiation skills to drive alignment and outcomes
  • Effective resolution management and conflict handling skills
  • Sharp analytical skills to interpret data and support informed decision-making
  • Experience in implementing changes across departments or functions

What you'll get

A competitive salary between £61,000 - £74,000 per annum– dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
