UK Environment and Sustainability Manager

Are you an expert in Climate and Sustainability, with a passion for driving meaningful change through influencing decision-making at senior levels? AXA UK is seeking an Environment & Sustainability Manager to deliver our Climate & ESG strategy across the UK Property, Procurement & Operations (PP&O) function. You’ll lead the implementation and management of initiatives which aim to improve the environmental performance of the UK Property estate, General Expenses (GenEx) & IT Expenses supply chain and wider operational activities. You’ll also collaborate effectively with Group and other AXA entities to roll out ‘best practice’ methodology, as part of our commitment to meet AXA’s ambitious Climate targets.

At AXA, we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at our Bristol, Bolton, Ipswich or Manchester office, visiting clients or attending industry events. What you’ll be doing:

  • Implement PP&O Climate initiatives and own the submission of UK operational climate metrics for delivery against Group targets and regulatory requirements e.g. CSRD, SECR; to include obtaining CFO sign-off, where required.
  • Be the primary contact for AXA UK to Group, business teams (Finance, HR, IT) and external stakeholders on Climate & ESG matters impacting the PP&O function.
  • Lead the delivery of action-oriented presentations, build meaningful relationships and maintain ‘best in class’ market knowledge.
  • Manage Sustainable Procurement Analyst (direct report) to facilitate delivery of their key responsibilities e.g. reduce Scope 3.1 emissions, increase Inclusive & Diverse third-party spend; and support their personal & technical development through effective performance management and coaching.
  • Responsible for the management and procurement of utilities (gas, electricity) and managing relationships with energy suppliers, energy consultants and brokers.
  • Work with the Data & Reporting team to maintain a database of operational climate metrics to support reporting and identification/ delivery of environmental initiatives to reduce the overall carbon footprint of AXA UK’s operations.

What you’ll bring:

  • Relevant degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Management; Climate & ESG (UK undergraduate or similar).
  • Membership of Institute of Environmental Management (IEMA), Lead Auditor for ISO 14001 is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written, and an ability to be assertive when appropriate to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Good networking skills to engage and obtain buy-in from AXA business stakeholders, third-party suppliers and external parties, e.g. energy brokers.
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation; examples include CSRD reporting, ESOS Audit & Action plans.
  • Self-directed analysis report writing and ability to derive data-driven insights from the Climate & ESG database.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programmes (PowerPoint, Excel, Word); experience in Power BI is advantageous.
  • Experience in Property & Operations processes (including good practices), driving transformational change, and not being afraid of ambiguous situations where you need to invent the path for success.
