Task Service is a data science product, driving transformation across Tesco operations. We solve problems focussed on how we can allocate tasks efficiently to colleagues across store, depot and fulfilment operations, optimising based on location, skillset and priority. This enables Tesco to optimise, combine or orchestrate multiple routines using advance data science algorithms.
We have a set of reusable data science and engineering capabilities which underpin an enterprise API to drive operational efficiencies, serving our customers and colleagues as effectively as possible. This role provides an opportunity to join a rapidly growing product team, leading transformation across our operations. You could be working on a variety of problem statements, from how we orchestrate in-store replenishment operations to how we sequence pick activities for robots in depots.
The successful candidate will be an eager problem solver, passionate about how AI can be leverage in operational environments, experienced in product management. The role will work closely with data science and engineering scrum teams, product & analytics teams and business teams to ensure our new technology meets the strategic outcomes of Tesco.

You will be responsible for
- Evolve and drive the product vision, strategy, and the long-term roadmap
- Proactively partner with peers and senior stakeholders to set the future direction of Task Service as part of the wider business strategy
- Deeply understand key user personas, customers & stakeholders for the product, addressing their pain points through innovative solutions.
- Am accountable for the performance/ adoption of the product and work towards achieving the Outcomes and Key Results (OKRs)
- Prioritise work and decisively resolve trade-offs with peers and senior leaders
- Effectively document and explain new requirements to the data science and engineering teams using user stories with acceptance criteria and help the team in breaking down complex work into smaller, deliverable chunks of value that can be delivered faster.
- Steer sprint/ release planning sessions by working with the engineering counterparts to plan sprints/ releases that deliver maximum business value with the least effort
- Engage with and actively be involved in market research, to shape opportunities to drive further task optimisation & shape vision and strategic direction of the product
You will need
- Experience working in product management with awareness of best practices & methodologies.
- Understand User Research/ Design Thinking concepts and apply those to your product work.
- Good knowledge in the use of Tools & Techniques for Backlog prioritisation, managing dependencies and for gaining insights using available data points.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of the technologies relevant to product management.
- A methodical and analytical approach, with great problem-solving skills, can provide logical answers to complex problems.
- Able to challenge the status quo
- Used good prioritisation techniques to refine & groom your feature backlog regularly.
Nice to have:
- Experience working with Data Science & Data Science Engineering, or actual experience in these roles
- Experience working in or transforming operational domains, such as store operations, depots, supply chain & logistics
- Knowledge of data science techniques and their application, including Operational Research
