Job Description

As a financial institution moving billions of pounds of customer money in more than 70 countries, Wise must have bulletproof financials. We are now looking for a Regional Prudential Controller to join our Finance Team in London. This role is a unique opportunity to have an impact on Wise’s mission by ensuring timely and accurate regulatory financial data as well as building mature processes and a scalable prudential control function.

As a Capital Resources Senior Manager you will be overseeing all Prudential Control Regulatory requirements for the Group. Responsibilities include being close to the Group month-end closing process to ensure Group is adequately capitalised, representing finance in relevant Committees especially in Group Prudential Risk Committee. 

A list of some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Key  Group Finance stakeholder for Group ICARA and Wind-down Plans. Active participant and collaborator for the Group’s Stress Testing and Capital and Financial Resource Adequacy. 
  • Owning the Group Capital month end calculations and controls. Owning the Group Capital KPIs that are monitored by Group ALCO.
  • Owning the quarterly Regulatory Reporting for Group Capital under MIFIDPRU rules and taking the process to the next level of automation and monitoring in collaboration with Risk and other Finance Teams. Owning the MIFIDPRU 8 disclosures for Group. 
  • Collaborating with Associate Prudential Controller over other Investment Entities Prudential Regulatory Requirements. 
  • Partnering with Risk and FP&A Financial Resource and Analysis teams for forward looking financial adequacy including reviewing capital base and stress forecast. 
  • Owning and draft board papers for Group Adequacy. 
  • Identifying missing or insufficient processes and taking initiative to find solutions, in collaboration with other teams, both within and outside the Finance;
  • Ensuring the balance sheet and income statement are fully understood with key Capital Demand and Supply drivers and variances are understood in relation to underlying changes in the products. . 
  • Working with analysts to ensure sufficient tooling to help explain period variances and providing commentary on those variances to support monthly group level signoff. 
  • Support Internal audit and Compliance testing over Group ICARA ask key finance contact.  
  • Improve documentation over regulatory interpretation of MIFIDPRU Rules and other Global projects.
  • Actively participating in team planning, actively highlighting key items to Implementation Managers to help remediate items that could impact the accuracy of the financial statements for your product.
  • Maintaining relationships within the Finance, Treasury and Risk Tribe and with all other stakeholders to ensure information over Wise’s risks, sharing and properly managing expectations.
  • Signing off on controls and assessing their effectiveness in Audit Board, the firms risk and control repository. 
  • Supporting entity controllers through clear communication of your regulatory capital and reporting requirements via  variances and performance analysis in the period impacting specific entities but also against forecast. 

A bit about you:

  • Significant experience (8-9 years) in either regulatory reporting, regulatory controlling,  financial controlling, financial audit, financial advisory or management accounting. You have a working knowledge of IFRS, MIFIDPRU, IFPRU/ BIPRU, CRR rules. 
  • Experience with capital adequacy or financial resource management,  financial or operational risks and a thirst to increase their knowledge on the topic.
  • You are a self starter and can organise your own work
  • Not afraid of challenges and making decisions, can work autonomously and take initiative
  • Cooperative attitude and ability to manage deadlines
  • You are a great communicator. You can adapt your communication style to different audiences. You’re able to persuade others and you aren’t afraid to challenge something when you need to.
  • Keen to challenge people and drive changes – can think outside the box and provide long term vision
  • Professional finance qualification such as the ACA, ACCA, CPA, CFA or equivalent.
  • You have worked in regulated environments, Fintech or Financial Services.
