PLACE BASED IMPACT ACCELERATION ACCOUNT (PBIAA) PROJECT MANAGER

Grade I: £47,174 - £56,292 p.a.  Fixed-term contract (4 years) 

We are looking for a PBIAA Project Manager with a strong track record in effectively managing and delivering large multi-partner interdisciplinary research programmes to join the growing team at Nottingham Trent University (NTU). This is a new role, which will create capacity by supporting the Project Lead to manage a programme of activities designed to accelerate the East Midlands's world class research into cutting-edge rehabilitation technologies (RehabTech) and ensuring the success of the PBIAA programme.

About NTU’s PBIAA

The East Midlands is at the forefront of rehabilitation and associated technologies, recognised by the Government’s £105M investment in the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC). In 2024, NTU won £2.5M from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council to support a four-year programme of knowledge exchange and impact activities that will catalyse the region’s success and launch the East Midlands as the UK’s ‘RehabTech Valley’—a leading hub for RehabTech excellence, analogous to the impact of the UK’s Formula 1 Motorsport Valley. 

Our PBIAA aims to build mechanisms currently missing to connect East Midlands’s cluster of 459 MedTech SMEs with our region’s world-class research and innovation, ensuring they dominate the design, development, and delivery of pioneering RehabTech to provide a boost to regional growth and productivity and ultimately transform health outcomes and inequalities. The 30-strong consortium is led by NTU, with the Universities of Nottingham, Loughborough, and Derby, and partners spanning medical and health tech organisations, the NHS, local government, and economic development.

About the PBIAA Project Manager Role

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong record of project managing large-scale collaborative programmes, from initiation and planning to execution and monitoring through to evaluation and reporting. They will be a skilled communicator and influencers with the ability to develop relationships with and between disparate partners and stakeholders across academia, public, private, and third sectors.

The successful candidate will be genuinely interested in the ways in which research and innovation can be applied to make a demonstrable difference in the world beyond academia. They will be someone who quickly assimilates new information and intelligence, is skilled at managing project scope, time, and cost, and has strong leadership skills with the tenacity and organisational skills to work with our researchers and collaborators to help progress the PBIAA programme and deliver positive outcomes and impacts.

MTIF - Facility

About us 

This role sits within the Medical Technologies Innovation Facility (MTIF), with a dotted line into the Research Strategy and Operations Team to ensure you feel fully integrated into and a part of the wider research-facing Professional Services community. The role reports to the Managing Director of MTIF, and you will work closely with the PBIAA Lead and Co-Leads and NTU’s Research Impact Manager. We operate on a hybrid basis, with the team spending some time every week co-located because we know the value of building relationships, sharing intelligence and ideas, and feeling part of something real.
