What is the Role?
As a Commercial Graduate joining SSEN Transmission, you will follow a specialist pathway. Specialists will work with experts in their specialism, gaining exposure within a business area for the duration of their graduate programme to provide a depth of knowledge for your substantive post.
We have various commercial positions based across Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness. These positions range across our Business Planning, Customer & Stakeholder, Strategy, and Technical Services teams.
About Our Teams
Business Planning: Responsible for a wide range of activities within SSEN Transmission covering: ownership of the Investment Decision Making framework including Cost Benefit Analysis methodology; Data ownership and analysis related to a wide range of activities including regulatory reporting, future generation impacts and longer-term business planning; Process and Project Management ownership for all pre-development activities; and Management and co-ordination of industry change impacts.
This team are seeking graduates with degree disciplines in Business, Economics or Mathematics. This team are based in Perth, Glasgow or Aberdeen office.
Customer and Stakeholder: Supporting the improvement initiatives within the directorate and will work in areas such as Connection Offers, Customer Relationships, Stakeholder Engagement, Communities and Corporate Affairs. This unique opportunity will provide development experience in areas such as business performance management, process analysis, change management, lean six sigma, and project management. These highly regarded, transferable skills will form the foundation of a Business Improvement professional, a sought after capability in the SSE Group.
As we move towards our ambitious Net-Zero targets and decarbonisation of the energy system, renewable energy developers and large demand customers need expert support to guide them through the complex process of connecting to the transmission network. The Customer Experience department is responsible for championing the needs of these customers both internally to ensure best service delivery, but also externally through advocating for positive change at a market level that will benefit our customers. The CX department oversees all contracts that enable connection the grid, customer relationship management from the point of contact acceptance to project energisation and beyond, commercial policy, customer insights and customer strategy. As a graduate you will have the opportunity to get involved at every stage of the customer lifecycle, helping to identify ways to improve the customer journey by working collaboratively with all areas of the business to deliver a best-in-class customer experience and help shape the strategy for customers on an enduring basis.
This team are seeking graduates with degree disciplines in Business, Engineering, Science, Technology, Finance or Mathematics. This team are based at our Perth office.
Strategy: Over the next few years, the electricity transmission network that we operate will quadruple in size as we connect more clean energy to the grid. Our team of Strategy and Sustainability experts aim to ensure that we grow the network in a fair and sustainable way, and in ways that align with our broader goals. A typical day in the Strategy team could involve developing insight and analytics or identifying and assessing future growth opportunities for the business. A typical day in the Sustainability team might involve helping a project team to identify low carbon materials, or doing research into evolving best practice in sustainability. The experience you will gain will give you an understanding of some of the strategic challenges and opportunities in the energy transition.
This team are seeking graduates with degree disciplines in Business, Politics, Sustainability, Economics or Science. This team are based at our Perth, Glasgow, or Aberdeen office.
Technical Services: You will report to the Business Improvement Team in Asset Management & Operations (AM&O). The team are responsible for the successful delivery of the AM&O Change and Continuous Improvement strategy. You will be responsible for supporting the Business Improvement Managers across various projects.
The Business Improvement Team focus on simplifying and standardising our processes, building a culture of change, improving our performance, and building capabilities across our business to ensure we are fit for the future and deliver our ambitious SSEN strategy.
We use a structured problem-solving approach, and work across the teams to solve business problems and in turn improve our quality, efficiency, and performance. The ideal candidate will have good analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to engage and communicate effectively with people across the business.
This team are seeking graduates with degree disciplines in Business, Project Management, Mathematics or Statistics (knowledge of Power BI would be advantageous). This team are based at our Glasgow or Perth office.

You will have a minimum of a 2:2 in the desired degree disciplines listed above.
