Speech and Language Therapist

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join the Sheffield Speech and Language Therapy Service on the Bank with NHS Professionals. The applicant will be based in the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals SLT service working as a member of the acute team providing a service to individuals with communication and/or swallowing problems, covering wards at Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Northern General Hospital and Western Park.

Main duties of the job

  • To make a differential diagnosis on clients communication/swallowing on the basis of evidence from assessment seeking advice as appropriate
  • To develop clear care plans based on best practice
  • To attend relevant training and development in order to maintain and develop specialist skills and knowledge
  • To develop a working knowledge of relevant procedures including: Working with Vulnerable Adults and other legal frameworks in line with government policy
  • To develop a working knowledge of the principles of Clinical Governance and their application to professional practice
  • To demonstrate highly developed auditory, perceptual and analytical skills in the assessment diagnosis and treatment of patients/clients
  • To assess, develop and implement Specialist Speech and Language Therapy Treatment to a defined specialised caseload of adult patients with a variety of communication and swallowing disorders
  • To provide advice/training to other professionals, patients, carers and families regarding the management and care of patients with communication disorders and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties
  • To adapt practice to meet individual patients circumstances
  • To supervise the work of assistants and volunteers

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant professional qualification (1st degree level or equivalent)
  • Registered with the Health Care Professions Council, and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists

Experience

Essential

  • Dysphagia accreditation and experience
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working
  • Extensive post-graduate experience
