TransferRoom is a hyper-growth B2B SaaS business on a mission to change the football transfer market for the better. We do this by empowering football clubs, agents and players to be successful in the transfer market by giving them real-time market intelligence and direct access to a global network of decision-makers.

Since our launch in 2017, clubs have used TransferRoom to facilitate over 3,000 transfers, and we are proud that today over 650 clubs from 60+ countries and 100+ leagues are currently using the platform.

About the Role

TransferRoom is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Vice President of Engineering to lead our engineering team. The VP Engineering will play a pivotal role in driving innovation, scaling our technology infrastructure, and delivering high-quality software products. This position reports directly to the CEO and will have a significant impact on the company's growth and success.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a growing team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Define and communicate the engineering vision, strategy, and goals to align the team with the company's objectives.
  • Develop business cases and justify technology-related investments to key stakeholders, including other members of the management team, for example to inform the appropriate prioritization of long-term technical investments (refactoring, resilience planning, etc) vis-a-vis short-term feature development.

Technical Strategy:

  • Develop and execute a technology vision and strategy that aligns with the company's business goals and objectives.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of a technology roadmap that supports the company's growth and scalability.
  • Identify emerging technologies and trends to ensure the company remains at the forefront of innovation.

Product Development:

  • Collaborate closely with product managers and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software products on time and within budget.
  • Set and maintain high standards for code quality, architecture, and design.
  • Help drive the development and innovation of our SaaS products, ensuring they remain competitive, reliable, and aligned with market needs.
  • Enhance the company’s use of Agile Scrum and software development metrics.

Scalability, Performance and Resilience:

  • Architect and scale the company's technology infrastructure to accommodate rapid growth and increasing demand.
  • Implement best practices for performance optimization and scalability.
  • Identify and manage operational risks and ensure service reliability.
  • Establish, own and maintain SLAs.

Resource Management:

  • Manage engineering budgets, resource allocation, and hiring plans to ensure the team's success.
  • Identify and fill gaps in the team structure.
  • Ensure that staff training needs are met appropriately.

Quality Assurance and Testing:

  • Establish robust testing and QA processes to ensure software quality and reliability.
  • Implement continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and maintain security best practices to protect sensitive data.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (8+ years) in engineering and technology operations leadership roles, with a track record of successfully leading and growing internationally distributed high-performance engineering teams.
  • Startup/Scale-Up Experience: Proven track record of thriving in startup or scale-up environments, with a demonstrated ability to adapt and lead in dynamic and rapidly evolving situations.
  • Experience with online marketplaces or industry knowledge (football industry) is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Strong knowledge of software development methodologies applied across multiple development teams, modern programming languages, and web technologies.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and service-based architectures. C# and MS SQL a major plus.
  • Experience harmonizing the activities of software development, technical operations, and data analysis teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical innovation and product development.
  • A passion for staying up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies.
