About this opportunity

The Cloud team is on the journey to create the next generation technical platform for Lloyds Banking Group that will be at the core of one of the UK's biggest financial service transformations.

Your role as an Engineering Lead is to be a visionary leader who works collaboratively with the Product Owner and the others to create an organisation that provides the best value propositions to our customers. You will Lead a team of 75-150 engineers, peered with a Lead Product Owner, and reporting to the Cloud Platform Director.

Given that the largest volume of work is inbound work delivered to support the initiatives for other platforms and business areas, you’ll need to be a phenomenal collaborator with a passion for leading great collaboration work. You’ll work together leading the teams with your Lead Product Owner, who will define the What & Why the team deliver, and you will work out the How, including not just the engineering solutions but how we implement changes to our work, e.g. Agile methods and instrumentation.

You’ll encourage teams to actively take part in Guilds, Inner Source activities and other forums and meet-ups through which our engineering methods and practices can be shared and developed so that new insights and ideas can be brought back to the lab to further improve engineering effectiveness. You’ll form part of a broader engineering leadership team across the Platform to support your ongoing development and be involved in initiatives outside the Platform.

You’ll have responsibility for hiring and growing existing engineering talent across the engineering teams, including across subject areas such as Infrastructure Engineering, Software Engineering and DevOps, enabling teams to reach their full potential.

You’ll enable a culture of learning and continuous improvement through a “Fail Fast, Learn Faster” mentality within teams to experiment and test new ways of engineering, to act as a change agent for engineering and team culture, and to foster a systems-thinking and user-experience led design approach. The ideal candidate will inspire delivery whilst encouraging simplicity and developing confidence & trust.

Key Responsibilities

Delivery of Value:

Compliance and Governance

  • Accountable for ensuring that all Engineering work is carried out in line with the Bank standards, including all decision making.
  • Accountable for maximising the safe delegation of authority and empowerment to the team in line with the above and in line with the core principle of Transformation
